The Department of Urban and Regional Planning of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA has retained its position as the best among all Nigerian universities offering the course. This feat was announced by the Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria, TOPREC, the regulatory body for the programme, based on the results of the working accreditation visit by the body to all institutions offering the course in Nigeria.
Conveying this through a letter to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, the Acting Registrar, TOPREC, TPL Uhiere Samuel Abayomi (fnitp) wrote, “On behalf of the Town Planners Registration Council (TOPREC), the statutory body mandated to among others, determine standards of knowledge, training and skills to be attained by persons seeking to become members of the Urban and Regional Planning profession in Nigeria, I am pleased to inform you of the Council’s consideration of your Institution as the best in the league of accredited schools in the 2023/2024 exercise.”
In her response to the development, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Oladiji said “this attainment is not unexpected because of the track record of the department in the past. It also confirms FUTA as a leading institution nationally and globally not just in words but indeed. I commend staff and students of the URP for making us proud as I also thank TOPREC for this recognition and award. As a university, we will continue to maintain our track record of excellence in teaching, research, and community service in all areas of our core competence and ensure that our products can compete favourable on the world and global stages.”
The formal presentation of the award to FUTA will hold on Thursday, 25th July 2024 in Abuja during the 37th induction ceremony of newly registered members.
