FUTA REWARDS EXCELLENCE
It was a time to relax and unwind at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA when some members of the institution were rewarded for their sterling performance in the course of the year and over the years. The University Management led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji and staff of the institution took to the dancing floor to celebrate and rejoice with the awardees. The event, an integral part of the ongoing 34th and 35th combined convocation held at the Afen Adebayo Multipurpose hall of the university on Monday, 25th November, 2024.
In a short remark, the Chairman at the event and Deputy Vice Chancellor, Development, Professor Sunday Oluyamo represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Professor Taiwo Amos said “it is an honour to recognize the remarkable contributions of our colleagues who have gone above and beyond in different roles in their services to the university. Excellence and productivity are not only metrics of success in an organization to measure performance, they are also driven values to innovate, collaborate and elevate one another. I can say categorically that each award recipient here today has exemplified these qualities not only through their outstanding work and results but also through their commitment to fostering a positive and inspiring work environment. “
He added that “as we celebrate the awardees, let us remember that excellence is not a destination, rather, it is a journey that proceeds continuously. Therefore, as we cherish and applaud the awardees of today, let us also commit and recommit ourselves to striving for greatness in the task ahead. Together, we can always build a culture where hard work is celebrated, and achievement fuels our collective ambition. “He appreciated the Vice Chancellor and Management of the University for instituting and sustaining the award and congratulated the recipients.
In separate remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Oladiji and the Registrar, Mr. Charles Adeleye thanked the staff and students for making the institution proud over the years. Professor Oladiji said, “I want to thank all of you for making FUTA proud. Whatever FUTA is or becomes today is the result of our collective efforts. We are all Futarians and builders of this institution. I am proud of all of you and the modest attainments of FUTA. We are doing well, but we can do better. We hope the next edition of this award will come with new awards and a review of the value. Management is grateful for all you are doing to sustain our success.

1. Best Researcher of the Year: Dr. Kolade Owolabi Dept. of Mathematics
2. HOD of the Year: Prof. Oluremi Abiolu Dept. of Library and Information Science
3. Best Dean of the Year: Prof. Oluayo Bello-Olusoji SPGS
4. Best Technologist of the Year: Mrs. Treasure Ijieh Dept. of QSV
5. Best Senior Staff: Mrs. Oyenike Vincent-Akpan Directorate of Bursary
6. Best Junior Staff: Mrs. Temitope Osho Directorate of Bursary
7. Best Senior Staff (Technical): Engr. Akeem Sotomiwa Directorate of Works & Services
8. Best Junior Staff (Technical): Mr. Jimoh Asante Directorate of Woks & Services
9. Best Lecturer of the Year: Prof. Kolade Koriko Dept. of Mathematics
10. Remarkable Achievement: Prof. Gabriel Iwasokun Dept. of Software Engineering
11. Selfless Service Award (Academic): Dr. Temitope Ologunwa Dept. of QSV
12. Selfless Service Award (Non-Teaching): Mr. Babatunde Mogaji Dept. of CSP
13. Meritorious Service Award: Mr. Oladokun Oluyede DVC, Academic’s office
14. Best Department of the Year: Urban and Regional Planning (URP)
Other categories of award were Long Service Award, Vice Chancellor Special Recognition Award, Students Leadership Award and Sport Award.
Responding on behalf of the awardees, Professor Francis Igbasan of the Department of Animal Production and Health and current Vice Chancellor, McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, who got a long service award, said, “this recognition will spur us to do more in contributing to the development of FUTA and our nation. We thank the Vice Chancellor and the university management for this recognition.”
