The Director of Epidemiology and Disease Control in the Ministry of Health, Ondo State has commended the effort of the Management of the Federal University of Technology , Akure FUTA in creating awareness on the prevention of Lassa fever in the country. Dr. Stephen Fagbemi made this commendation while on an advocacy visit to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Joseph Fuwape. He said the awareness from FUTA has been very aggressive as both print and electronic media are being employed. He mentioned that out of the 450 cases recorded so far in the country, Ondo State alone has recorded 195.Dr. Fagbemi equally commended the FUTA medical centre under the leadership of the Director, Dr. Tayo Adenikinju for the professional disposition to the discharge of its duties to members of the University Community. He said to complement the effort of the health workers Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) should be made available in all hospitals and advised that people should take responsibility for the sanitation of their environment.
Responding, Professor Fuwape promised that FUTA will take all appropriate steps regarding the prevention of Lassa fever and other health related issues. The Vice Chancellor said with the help of the Student Union, awareness would be doubled to ensure that students staying on and off campus especially, get their surrounding tidy and comprehensively fumigated.
