Encomiums As FUTA Bursar , Julius Adeshoba, Bows Out Of Service


The Bursar, of the Federal University of Technology Akure,FUTA Mr. Julius Adeshoba completed his five-year tenure of meritorious service to the university on the 31st of July 2024. As part of events to celebrate his remarkable career and contribute to the development of the bursary and the university system ,the staff of the Bursary Department organized a befitting send forth in his honor and the first Bursary lecture titled “Bursary Operations in a University” on Monday 5th August 2024.

The Guest Lecturer and former Bursar of the University of Ibadan, Mr. Michael Alatise said money related matters called for extreme caution and accountability. He said there was no room for haphazardness in financial record keeping as any misinformation could lead to chaos especially in the university community.

According to him, " Processing financial papers incorrectly can put you in trouble with the law. Due process is always an absolute necessity to ensure accountability. You must know that public officials face scrutiny and as such anything that will cause unnecessary embarrassment must be avoided at all costs."

He urged Bursary staff not to allow unnecessary bureaucracy to destroy the stability of the day-to-day activities of the university adding that financial delays could rock the boat of an erstwhile peaceful academic community especially matters involving purchase of items for the student body.

Alatise implored staff to constantly seek to improve themselves career wise. He said "do not be satisfied with any current posting. Strive to add more qualifications when or where needed. Organize and attend training. Be a good example to the teaching staff because that synergy is necessary to keep the university working".

In her remarks at the occasion, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji said" the fact that the Bursary is celebrating the outgoing bursar speaks volumes of his person. The Bursar is an amiable personality and deserves every accolade he is getting. He is a selfless leader who takes the interest of his staff as a priority. He is an effective manager of men and resources. With him as the bursar, I did not have any cause for concern. He is reliable and dependable. "She commended him for keeping the Bursary Department as a closely knitted family under his watch adding that teamwork in the Bursary made financial operations in the university run smoothly.

The Vice Chancellor lauded the planning committee for organizing the lecture. She said " this lecture is highly commendable and worthy of emulation. Learning is lifelong and if you will improve your efficiency, you must add new ideas to your existing knowledge. The things you learn are instrumental to your success. "

Earlier in a welcome address, the Chairperson, Bursary Welfare committee, Mrs. Remi-Adesida said the outgone bursar is being honored today for successfully completing his tenure as the 5th substantive bursar of FUTA. He is a professional of no mean repute , who has distinguished himself in the university system as a financial expert. Today's ceremony is an epoch-making ceremony in the annals of the Bursary Department because this is the first time the Department will be holding a lecture, and we shall be holding the Bursary Lecture annually from henceforth." At the ceremony Colleagues and Friends also took turns to eulogize the Outgone bursar.

Responding Mr. Adeshoba said the position of a Bursar was not an easy one. He said it takes grit and determination to succeed. He added that it was a demanding position and required levelheadedness to execute required tasks. Adeshoba thanked the Bursary Department for the honor accorded him and wished all staff well in their future endeavors.
