Ondo State FRSC Sector Commander visits FUTA, Seeks Stronger Partnership for Enhanced Road Safety


The newly appointed Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, for Ondo State, Corps Commander (Dr.) Samuel Ibitoye, paid a courtesy visit to the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, on Monday, 2nd September 2024 to discuss strengthening partnerships and exploring new areas of constructive collaboration. During the visit, Dr. Ibitoye stressed the importance of collaboration between the FRSC and academic Institutions like FUTA in fostering road safety awareness and research. He emphasized the need for joint efforts in promoting safer road usage within the University community and beyond.
Dr. Ibitoye also expressed his intention to involve FUTA in upcoming FRSC initiatives, including research projects, student sensitization programmes, and public safety campaigns. He commended the University for its continuous Commitment to innovation and safety, which aligns with the Corps' mission of reducing road traffic accidents in the state.
In response, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, expressed her appreciation for the visit and lauded the proactive approach of the FRSC to nib road traffic accidents in the bud. She noted that FUTA has always been committed to community engagement and collaboration, particularly in areas that directly impact the welfare of its students and staff.
Professor Oladiji assured the Sector Commander of the University's readiness to partner with the FRSC in any capacity that would enhance road safety and save lives. She highlighted the potential for joint research efforts, leveraging the University’s expertise in Technology and Engineering to develop innovative solutions for road safety challenges.
The Vice Chancellor also reaffirmed FUTA’s commitment to fostering a culture of safety and responsibility among its students and staff, emphasizing that societal change begins with instilling these values in the next generation.
