To deepen their practical knowledge in their area of specialization, 400Level students of the Department of Animal and Environmental Biology, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko on July 31st , 2023 undertook a study tour of the . Julius Okojie Central Research Laboratory (PJOCRL), Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA.

Receiving the students and lecturers from AAUA, the Director, Professor Folasade Olajuyigbe stated that their presence in PJOCRL marks a significant step in their educational journey. She said that the concept of PJOCRL was borne out of the need to achieve cost-effectiveness in the provision of modern and state-of-the-art facilities, centrally, to support research activities of graduate and undergraduate students, academics, investigators, and researchers from within and outside FUTA. She also added that their primary goal is to enhance the quality of research across a wide range of disciplines and create opportunities for groundbreaking discoveries.

During the visit, the students had the privilege of interacting with Scientists and Technologists who possess essential knowledge of the use of cutting-edge laboratory equipment. Professor Olajuyigbe and her team took the visiting students through a wide range of state of the art equipment that provides technical assistance and access to advanced and internationally relevant research. They were exposed to how the CRL serves research community with access to her Analytical, Bioresearch, Diagnostics, Food and Nutrition Units, to address national and global needs in Agriculture, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Biotechnology, Bioenergy, Ecosystem Health, Food Production and Safety, Water Quality amongst others. The four vital units- each designed to offer unique insights into their respective fields.

Professor Olajuyigbe   encouraged the students to embrace every moment of discovery and to take the knowledge gained at PJOCRL and let it ignite a passion within them, drive them to explore further, learn more and contribute to the scientific and technological advancements for the welfare of man and environment.

The leader of the delegates from AAUA, Dr. Adewole Adeyemo said their choice of FUTA was necessitated by the world class equipment available at the FUTA Laboratory and her topnotch research activities.

Speaking on behalf of the students, Philip Adebayo said their presence at FUTA Central Research Laboratory was to gain practical knowledge and exposure, and take advantage of the well-equipped laboratory and learn new things in their field.
