WASCAL FUTA WELCOMES 4TH BATCH OF Ph.D. STUDENTS

The West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use, WASCAL,   Doctoral Research Programme on West African Climate System DRP- WACS domiciled at the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA  has formally welcomed  its 4th Batch of students drawn from several counties in West Africa as part of its commitment to sustaining the Climate change initiative sponsored by the German Ministry of Education and Research. Speaking at the occasion on Friday January 17th , Acting Director, WASCAL, Professor Emmanuel Okogbue, said the aim of the orientation programme  was to integrate  the new students  into the university community and give them a befitting welcome as is the usual custom of the institution. He said the university will give them the required support needed for the successful completion of the programme. He enjoined them to be hardworking and committed to succeed in the programme and be determined to be solutions to the myriads of environmental problems facing the sub region.

In his speech the Vice Chancellor, Professor Joseph Fuwape represented by the Deputy Vice chancellor, Development, Professor Phillip Oguntunde said dedicated staff were on ground to give the students an enriching learning experience. He assured them that they will be fully assisted to accomplish their goals within the stipulated time frame. He urged them to ask questions and cooperate fully with staff to enable them have a rewarding research experience in the institution.

On his part., the Deputy vice chancellor academics, Professor Deji  Ogunsemi said FUTA is a research-intensive university and is equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities that will enhance their learning experience. He said FUTA Alumni are well groomed for exploits and are known for setting the pace in all fields of endeavor.

The 11 Students are drawn from Mali, Benin Republic, Togo, Ghana, Gambia, Niger Republic, Senegal and Nigeria.
