Call for Applications: 4th TYAN International Thematic Workshop and 1st African Symposium on Big Data, Analytics and Machine Intelligence for Financial, Health and Environmental Inclusion in Developing Countries
The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS)-Young Affiliates Network (TYAN) will be organising a Symposium and workshop to be hosted by the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria in partnership with TWAS Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Partner (TWAS-SAREP), the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) Ondo State Chapter and Nigerian Young Academy (NYA). The theme of the events is “Big Data, Analytics, and Machine Intelligence for Financial, Health and Environmental Inclusion in Developing Countries" to increase knowledge and build capacity in big data sciences and Machine Intelligence research in the African context.
The Symposium which will hold on June 10-11, 2019 is open to Senior and Young scientists from TYAN, Nigeria, and the African region and international experts will be invited to present specific aspects of their work according to the thematic areas. The idea is to share expertise and experience that will serve as a launch pad for discussing collaborative ideas and projects. There will be Keynote speeches, Plenary Sessions, Oral presentations and poster sessions. Importantly, the speakers and invited exhibitor companies will engage in a panel discussion session the advancements made, challenges and prospects in Big data and Machine intelligence with emphasis on African research context and the selected sustainable development goals compared to developed countries.
Proposed Speakers are expected to submit abstracts together with full papers on any of the thematic areas outlined on the home page.
The workshop is open to early career researchers, Ph.D students, Postdoctoral Researchers and young scientists who show evidence of research experience on the theme of the workshop. The workshop which will hold on June 12-14, 2019 will be conducted by some TYAN members together with some invited outstanding scientists who will provide tutorials and discuss cutting-edge developments in each of the three application areas – financial inclusion, health and environmental management with respect to sustainability. It will include a series of lectures to discuss common topics of interest and increase interactions among the young scientists within Nigeria, Africa and beyond. These will serve as avenues for practical sessions, tutorial, data analysis and for the initiation of collaborative discussions. In addition, workshops on partnership opportunities will also be conducted. All participants will be divided into these three groups to discuss the designated topics and a summary of these discussions will be reported at the end of each session.
Workshop participants are also expected to attend the symposium and make oral or poster presentation to share their current research results.
