FUTA Alumni Association, North America Gives Scholarship to Students


In a remarkable display of generosity and give back, the Federal University of Technology Akure Alumni Association, North America, FUTANA has donated scholarship to the most Improved Student in each School, best Female Student in each School, best Student in each School and selected indigent students to the tune of N5 Million.

Speaking virtually to the audience at the presentation ceremony, on Friday, July 26, 2024 the President, FUTANA who also served as President FUTASU, 1997/98, Mr. Femi Aboderin described the occasion as heartwarming. He said it is a privilege to be able to work with the University administration and give back to the school that made the members of the Association. According to him Alumni Association has a great role to play in the molding, growth, and development of a university. He said FUTANA will continue to celebrate excellence in FUTA and work with the relevant authorities to advance the cause of the University.

Speaking relatedly the Project Director, Dr Olufemi Fajolu from the 2001 set, congratulated all the awardees and urged them to continue striving for the best. He said the FUTANA family believes in the success of all the students and wish all of them success in their academic pursuit. Dr Fajolu thanked the Vice Chancellor for always seeking means to partner with the Alumni.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, in her address congratulated all the 39 beneficiaries. She said gradually FUTA dreams are being actualized with all stakeholders playing noble roles to deepen the development of the institution. She said one of the missions of her administration is to give adequate publicity to FUTA alumni doing great and projecting the image of the University all over the world. She said this would drive their identification with their university.

Professor Oladiji commended FUTANA for including indigent students in the scholarship initiative as a hungry student can do truly little to assimilate any academic exercise. She assured that the management will continue to partner with bodies that can help alleviate the challenges associated with indigent students. She thanked FUTANA for helping to put smiles on the faces of the students who benefited from the scholarship award.

She advised and appealed to the student to put the money donated to good use and what its meant for. The Vice Chancellor said the giver gave not because they have no use for money, but they gave to demonstrate an act of kindness, which now puts necessity on beneficiaries to also give back when the time comes no matter how little.

In an address the Dean Student affairs Unit, Professor David Oke said with current realities of the economy the donation will definitely go a long way in relieving some financial burden from the students. He urged the awardees to continue to take their studies seriously studies and make their benefactors proud.

In a vote of thanks, one of the beneficiaries, Adedire Afolabi, thanked the University FUTANA members for finding them worthy to be beneficiaries of the laudable gesture. She promised on behalf of the other awardees that they will not disappoint the management and their benefactors.
