Ogunjobi, Former FUTA WASCAL Director, Gets International Appointment

Professor Kehinde Ogunjobi of the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA has been appointed as the Director of Research at the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use, WASCAL Competence Center in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.  WASCAL is an initiative owned by  African Countries of the ECOWAS region- Nigeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo,- and  supported by the Federal Government of Germany to carry out research intended to provide science-based advice to policymakers and stakeholders on Climate Change impacts, mitigation and adaptation measures. In the letter of appointment signed by Dr Moumini Savadogo, WASCAL Executive Director, which also contained the job profile, Professor Ogunjobi in his new role will devise the necessary linkages between the different poles of the WASCAL Research Programme and with external research partners, particularly the national, regional and international research institutions. He will also coordinate joint research activities of research institutions in the member countries of WASCAL and build a strong Network with them. Ogunjobi, whose three year tenure begins on February 3, 2020, brings into his position robust experience from his four year stint as the Director of FUTA WASCAL Graduate Research Programme, GRP WACS which ended on 31st December 2019.

FUTA is the first University in the region to host WASCAL PhD programme in Climate System under the aegis of the Graduate Research Program in West African Climate System (GRP-WACS) and has continued to produce needed manpower at the Masters and PhD levels for the region. The Vice Chancellor Professor Joseph Fuwape in his congratulatory message expressed optimism that Professor Ogunjobi will acquit himself creditably well and demonstrate the excellent academic prowess that FUTA’s researchers and experts are known for nationally and globally.
