FUTA Will Continue to Support Entrepreneurship, and Promote Skill Acquisition


The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure Professor Adenike Oladiji has assured students and other stakeholders that the Institution will continue to breed and produce great entrepreneurs for the country and the world through teaching, research and especially in the area of skill acquisition. She stated this during the exhibition of products by students who partook in the compulsory course titled Acquisition of Practical Skills in Entrepreneurship (ENT 302) under the aegis of the Centre for Entrepreneurship (CENT).
Declaring the event which held on Friday 20th September 2024 at the Afen Adebayo Multipurpose Auditorium open, Professor Oladiji said “This is another opportunity to see what our students have done through skills acquired these few weeks. It is an annual event which has produced and exposed budding entrepreneurs for our nation and even beyond. I have it on good record that skills acquired from this training in the past have helped a lot of our products after graduating.”
Speaking on the high spirit of “Futarian” in line with the mantra “technology for self-reliance” displayed over the years by staff and students in the past, she encouraged continuity, adding that acquiring technology and lifelong skills are important for the future. She urged the students to leverage on the power of social media and promised her personal support in recommending students businesses that provide solutions on campus.
Professor Oladiji commended the Centre for Entrepreneurship for organizing the annual event and praised the efforts of trainers and all who played different roles behind the scenes in training and ensuring the success of the annual event.
In her welcome address, the Director CENT, Professor Oladunni Daramola emphasized the importance of the training for the future of the students, stating that the purpose is to unearth the hidden entrepreneurial potentials and promote self-reliance. She added that the training serves as a foundation for students to build successful and sustainable future, citing examples of past students capitalized on the opportunity and are now thriving.
Appreciating the Vice Chancellor, Professor Oladiji and the University Management for always supporting the Centre, she said FUTA environment offers a viable platform for patronage and expressed her confidence that great entrepreneurial giants would continue to emerge from the university. She said the Centre recently had a talent hunt programme aimed at supporting students’ entrepreneurial skills. She expressed her gratitude to the collaborators, trainers, and supervisors for contributing to the success of the annual training.
Lending their voices, the Director of the Technology and Incubation Centre, Professor Olubanjo and Associate Director, CENT, Dr. Emidun praised the students for the efforts and the quality of the products displayed. They encouraged them not to relent after the exhibition, but to leverage on the already acquired skills to better their production.
Products displayed during the exhibition range from farm produce, home accessories, SOLAR powered appliances confectioneries, hat and artwork, fashion, and fashion products, among others.
