The Chief Imam, Muslim Community, Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA Dr. AbdulGhaffar Oniyide, has restated that societal reformation starts from individual self-reformation. He stated this at the Juma service heralding the combined 34th and 35th convocation ceremonies of the institution held at the FUTA Central Mosque on Friday, November 22, 2024.
He defined reformation as an amendment or repair of what is corrupt, a rebuilding of the institutions in government and society according to their God Ordained order and organization. Oniyide said the scholars of Islam posited that those given the responsibility to remind others about commandments should first obey the commandments. According to him no sin must be regarded as insignificant, hence everyone must engage in self-reflection from this perspective as Allah the Almighty has assigned a punishment for every sin either small or big.
The Chief Imam congratulated the convoking graduates and urged them to fear Allah in all their dealings. He also counselled them to be good ambassadors of FUTA and continue to project its image positively. Oliyide concluded his sermon with a prayer for God’s protection for all the graduands and their parents, the Management and all those in position of authority in the institution.
In a remark at the event, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, thanked the Muslim Community for its positive role role in the development and advancement of FUTA. She commended them for living and abiding by the tennets of Islam which is PEACE. She said the Contribution of staff members who are Muslims cannot be over emphasized in the scheme of things.
Professor Oladiji said the last year has been very eventful and its gradually ending in joy and praise. She appreciated every staff of the University, teaching and non-teaching for making the FUTA DREAM come to pass. She also craved the indulgence of everyone to always try and remember to pray for Nigeria even in the secret of their closet so that the country can attain its destined position amongst committee of nations. The Vice Chancellor appealed to parents especially mothers to admonish their children particularly the girlchild to be focused and excel in their field of studies.
The Chairman Muslim Community, Professor Ishaq Amoo, who also spoke at the occasion appreciated the positive disposition of the management towards the Muslim community. He also appreciated the members of the Muslim community for their contributions in the institution. He advised the graduating students to apply all they have learnt in FUTA in the outside world and urged them to be worthy ambassadors of the University
