FUTA NEW GENERATION INVENTORS DISPLAY PROWESS
Students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure are again soaring high in their contributions to the nation’s technological development and living up to the technology for self-reliance credo of the institution . Their readiness to join the league of inventors with life changing innovations came to the fore at the University’s School of Engineering and Engineering Technology’s (SEET) first undergraduate Interdepartmental Project Competition on Tuesday , November 26,2019. The final year students captivated those who came for the show with fabrication and presentation of home and industrial appliances and applications such as drones, fruit identification application, poultry water dispenser, groundnut peeler, yam pounder, human detection robot, among others.
The Dean of the School, Professor Aremu Akintunde, who spoke on the origin and importance of the competition, noted that the competition is a pet project of the school which is aimed at encouraging hard work among the students. He explained that the competitors are final year students from Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mining Engineering and Electrical Electronics Engineering departments who were selected as the best five project fabrications presented at the session’s final year project defense. He disclosed that winners were expected to emerge from the competition and be rewarded with cash prizes at the school’s 2019 Annual lecture holding on 9th December, while all participants would be entitled to certificates of participation.
On the assembling of materials and cost implications of the various fabrications, the Dean who noted that the students were being groomed to become problem solvers and manufactures said that SEET was well equipped to take the nation to the next level of technological advancement but sought funding from government and stakeholders to get an opportunity at equal participation in competition across the world.
