FUTA Gets Full Accreditation for Eighteen Academic Programmes


The National Universities Commission (NUC) has given full accreditation status to eighteen programmes it assessed at the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA. The result is hinged on the accreditation exercise carried out by the Commission between October and November 2023. The accreditation is valid for five years commencing from the 2023/2024 academic session in accordance with the Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standard (CCMAS).

Conveying the result of the exercise to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, the Acting Director of Accreditation at the NUC, Engineer Abraham Chundusu, who signed for the Acting Executive Secretary, Mr. Chris Maiyaki wrote “Section 10 (1) of the Education (National Minimum Standard and Establishment of Institutions) Act CAP E3, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, empowers the National Universities Commission to lay down Minimum Academic Standards for all academic programmes taught in Nigerian Universities and also to accredit such programmes. In line with the provisions of the Act, the Commission organized the accreditation of academic programmes at the Federal University of Technology, Akure in October/November 2023. The result of the exercise is as follows:

  • 4. Electrical and Electronic Engineering ---- Full
  • 5. Metallurgical and Material Engineering ---- Full
  • 6. Estate Management ---- Full

  • 8. Quantity Surveying ----Full
  • 9. Surveying and Geo-Informatics ---- Full
  • 10. Urban and Regional Planning ---- Full
  • 11. Applied Geology ---- Full
  • 12. Applied Geophysics ---- Full

Expressing her delight at the development, Professor Adenike Oladiji said the result further validates the rich faculty the University is endowed with and its recent ranking as the Second-Best University among Federal Universities. She said the University would strive to improve on all areas of its core competences and strengthen teaching, research, and community service in order to consolidate its position as a leading citadel of academic excellence.
