The Chairman Board of Trustees, Society for Experimental Biology of Nigeria (NISEB) and former Vice Chancellor, Fountain University, Oshogbo, Professor Hussein Oloyede has said that teaching and giving instructions is a sacred trust that must not be handled with levity. He made the assertion during a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor , Federal University of Technology Akure FUTA Professor Adenike Oladiji.
The Don , who supervised the theses of Professor Oladiji during her undergraduate and post graduate degrees programmes at the University of Ilorin,said every student has a hidden potential that can be nurtured to greatness and failing to do that is doing a great disservice to humanity as an academic.
He said "leadership is an opportunity to serve. If you serve others you will be served . Do not underrate any student. You do not know the amount of influence the student under your tutelage can wield tomorrow Be firm but deliberate in providing mentorship to the younger generation "
In her response the Vice Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji described Professor Oloyede as a Worthy mentor whose steady hand has produced many accomplished scholars. She aligned with the erudite professor on the need for senior academics to show upcoming scholars the path to thread and also provide needed guidance.
According to the Vice Chancellor, "Mentorship of younger scientists and collaboration will build healthy relationships and promote research breakthroughs that can bring innovative development to the nation."
