FUTA Hosts NCC-DBI Digital Literacy Training


The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) is hosting the 4th edition of the annual digital literacy training programme, an initiative by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in partnership with the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI).
This Federal Government-approved training, which is part of a nationwide capacity-building effort, aims to enhance digital literacy and equip university communities with cutting-edge skills in line with global standards.
The training is focused on empowering participants with essential digital knowledge, ensuring they adapt to rapidly changing global technological practices.
The initiative is also designed to position Nigerian universities as global repositories of digital knowledge, contributing to the nation’s growing digital economy.
While welcoming participants, the Coordinator, Advanced Digital Empowerment for Tertiary Institutions,ADEPTI FUTA, who is University’s focal person for the training, Professor Sunday Adewale, expressed gratitude to the NCC and DBI for choosing FUTA once again as a venue for this transformative programme. “This training aligns perfectly with FUTA’s mission to foster technological innovation and digital advancement. It provides our staff with the skills necessary to compete globally,” Professor Adewale said.
The Training Coordinator from DBI, Mr Ikenna Ogbanufe in his address explained the significance of digital literacy in driving Nigeria's future. “By consistently executing this training across Universities, we are ensuring that Nigerian Institutions like FUTA can harness digital technologies to contribute meaningfully to global digital knowledge,” he said.
According to him, this year’s edition, like others, has drawn participation from a wide range of the University communities eager to build on the knowledge provided in previous years.
The training covers a diverse range of topics, including data science, cybersecurity, and digital communication tools, offering participants the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in these fields.
The Dean of the School of Computing, Professor kayode Alese, praised the initiative for providing participants with vital tools to navigate the digital landscape. He added that this year’s training is an invaluable resource for participants, opening doors to new digital possibilities, and practical knowledge to navigate new frontiers in digital landscape.
FUTA’s hosting its 4th edition of the NCC-DBI digital literacy training further solidifies its position as a hub for innovation and capacity development contributing to the Federal Government’s broader vision of creating a digitally skilled workforce.
