In a remarkable display of innovation, students from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), secured third place at the prestigious JBC Youth Innovation Challenge held in Ibadan, winning a cash prize of one million naira.
The team’s project, a biomass cookstove integrated with thermoelectric generator (TEG) technology, addresses rural energy challenges by converting waste heat into electricity. The cookstove not only ensures efficient cooking but also provides power for charging devices and lighting, offering a sustainable solution for underserved communities.
The project, founded by Engr. Charles Udekwe of the Department of Information and Communication Engineering and other founding team members, was further developed and presented by team members Omolade Niyi Alex (Electrical and Electronics Engineering), Oyedeji Kehinde, and Adebayo Abubakr (Information and Communication Engineering). These students played key roles in advancing the research, design, and technical execution of the project.
This achievement underscores FUTA’s dedication to fostering innovative solutions to real-world problems, reaffirming its reputation as a leader in technological research and development in Nigeria.
Congratulations to the team for their outstanding performance and impactful innovation!
