PROFESSOR FUWAPE CHARGES STUDENTS TO MAXIMIZE OPPORTUNITIES IN SIWES
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Joseph Fuwape has admonished 400 level students embarking on the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) to maximize the opportunities of learning and practical experience embedded in the scheme. He gave the charge during the 2019 edition of the Annual SIWES orientation programme aimed at preparing students for the challenges of the scheme that they are likely to face in the various industries and organizations.He said SIWES is very germane to the production of the much needed competent indigenous manpower. He said “I am appealing to all the intending IT students here present to show commitment to the cause of this national policy and display attitude that will make it highly beneficial to you. Doing this will no doubt guarantee you placement in the highly competitive Nigerian society where job opportunities are continually dwindling”
Professor Fuwape said SIWES is a federal government policy formulated to bridge the gap between the theoretical background in the school and practical knowledge in the industry. The Vice Chancellor noted with delight that supervisors have rated FUTA students high in terms of discipline, commitment to work and readiness to learn and was optimistic that the students will keep the flag flying by representing FUTA in their various places of industrial training.
In his address the Area Manager, Industrial Training Fund, Akure Area Office Mr. Gabriel Oladimeji admonished the students to be disciplined while expanding their horizons in learning.He admonished them to imbibe the virtues of dedication, loyalty, punctuality and honesty. Mr. Oladimeji assured the students of the support of ITF in making their SIWES experience worthwhile.
Earlier in his address, the Director, Industrial Training Unit, FUTA, Professor Benjamin Akinyele said through the activities of the ITU, FUTA has been recognized by the various industries and organizations in the country as a University that consistently send out a crop of students who are not only disciplined but also dedicated to work and eager to learn. He charged the students to protect the name and image of the institution by maintaining and improving on the standards of their predecessors have put in place.
