FUTA Gets 23 New Professors

The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) has announced the promotion of 23 senior members of academic staff to the Professorial rank.
And on Thursday August 21st, 2024, the Governing Council and Management of the University celebrated the new professors during a reception organized to commemorate their elevation.
Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji said " it has become our tradition to celebrate newly promoted professors. The professional position is the height of academic endeavor, and it is an accomplishment worth celebrating. As a professor you are an ambassador of the university and your profession. A lot is expected from you within and outside the university. Your behavior should not fall short of socially acceptable behavior. Most importantly you must provide leadership and mentorship for your younger colleagues. We can only build an efficient academic system that we will be proud of through supporting the growth of younger academics. Nobody remains strong forever. When you mentor people, you will in turn get support when you are weak. We all need each other to succeed in life."
The Vice Chancellor pointed out that research output from FUTA must increase in accordance with the number of professors in FUTA. She said "learning, teaching and supervision of undergraduates and postgraduates must improve. The quality of research must be topnotch. That is the only way, FUTA can reap the dividends of your professorship. Your responsibility from now on is to contribute meaningfully to the growth of FUTA".
On her part, the Pro Chancellor and Chairman Governing council, (Senator Prof) Nora Daduut commended the management for celebrating the professors describing it as a noble gesture that should spur them to work harder to maintain the excellent academic culture FUTA is known for.
She said, " I am proud to be a part of this community the humility among staff in FUTA demonstrates the high level of knowledge within the university.” The Pro Chancellor reiterated the importance of mentorship. She said that is the only way to add value to the university and to the nation. Senator Daduut congratulated the dons of their elevation stating that it is the beginning of greater things to come.
Speaking on behalf of other awardees, a former registrar of the university, Professor Modupe Ajayi said " it is a great privilege to be appointed as professors and we thank the university management for this promotion. This elevation is a call to additional service. As reservoirs of knowledge, it is expected of us to water younger colleagues. It is an avenue to serve in greater capacity and we pledge wholeheartedly to commit ourselves to achieve more feats academically for the university ".
