FUTA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION GETS TRUST FUND BOARD

FUTA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION GETS TRUST FUND BOARD

The Alumni Association of the Federal University of Technology in conjunction with the Management and the Advancement Centre has set up a Trust Fund. Inaugurating the ten (10)-member Board the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Fuwape said the inauguration marks another milestone in the annals of FUTA bearing in mind the steady decline in government funding and financial constraint of higher institutions. Professor Fuwape said the Alumni have continued to demonstrate enthusiasm in engaging themselves and organizing various programmes across the globe geared towards promoting the ideals of their Alma Mata and investing in its development.

He said FUTA is laying a foundation of an enterprise that will catapult the institution to an enviable height of competitiveness in funding through well-coordinated efforts of alumni as it operates in leading world Universities such as Harvard, MIT and Yale where the alumni raised $1.19 billion to support their Alma Mata. Emphasising on the merit of the initiative, Professor Fuwape said the FUTA Alumni Trust Fund is another enterprise that occupies a special pride of place whose critical role would contribute immensely to the attainment and sustenance of the laudable projects envisioned by his administration to re-brand FUTA as a Centre of Excellence in Research, Innovation and Product Development. Professor Fuwape congratulated the Chairman, Engineer Olusegun Faleke and all members of FUTA Alumni Trust Fund Board for the opportunity to do this great service to the University.

Presenting the members, Chairman of the Board, Engineer Faleke said FUTA products are doing well and making FUTA proud. He said, “looking at the rank and file of the members you will realise they are men and women of virtue holding key positions and blazing the trail in their different positions globally”. He commended the doggedness of the Alumni Association Exco members and encouraged them to keep striving for greater heights. The Chairman said the Board will do all it can to reach all FUTA Alumni globally for the annual contribution to the cause of the University, proposing a minimum contribution of N1,000 for each alumnus residing and working in Nigeria and five (5) dollars ($5) for those in diaspora. He encouraged all FUTA Alumni (home and abroad) to bear this mind by responding positively to assist the institution.

In his remark the Patron of the Board, Are Afe Babalola , founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, (ABUAD), emphasized that for any higher institution of learning to attain enviable height and compete adequately globally it must look beyond government funding and begin to think outside of the box. Represented by Professor Sylvester Oluwadare Ojo, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, (Academic) (ABUAD) , Are Babalola said FUTA has impacted positively on its entire alumnus. He said FUTA is great and will always remain great saying members of the Board are men and women of integrity and this will be displayed in managing the funds. He expressed absolute confidence in the establishment of the Board believing that things will begin to change for the better in the efforts to improve the lot of FUTA.

Describing an Alumnus of a University as a child of the University that trained him, he said it is expected of a good child to cater for both the biological father and the University which is the other father. He said if those who have passed through FUTA appreciate their obligations to their Alma Mata, FUTA will become more enviable and less dependent on government subvention. He charged the FUTA Alumni Association to rise to the challenge by donating handsomely to the FUTA Alumni Trust Fund.
