FUTA Overview

DEAN OF STUDENTS, STUDENTS AFFAIRS STAFF VISIT NDLEA, FRSC, ONDO STATE




The Ag. Dean of Students, Prof G. E Onibi accompanied by the Students Affairs Officer, Mr. O. S. Adebayo and Dr. A. E. Arijesuyo, H.O.D. Guidance and Counseling paid courtesy visits to the state offices of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Monday 16th October, 2017. Other members of staff in the entourage include Mrs. F. T. Adetunji, Mrs. O. A. Olusanya, Mrs. O.A. Adeyi, Mr I. D. Adamolekun, Mr O. C. Olaiya and Miss O. O. Ogunyemi. The visit is part of the Deans’ familiarization tour to agencies and organization that are relevant to the office of the Dean of Students.

Receiving the delegation of the Students’ Affair Division, The State Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Ondo State, Alhaji Mohammed Malami  Sokoto cni fsi commended the visiting team and by extension, the management of FUTA and stated that the State office of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency is ready to improve on the partnership that existed between the University and the Agency. He also opined that this partnership when strengthened, would help in making the state a safe, crime-free and healthy zone. The State Commander also called on the University to carry out more research in new and emerging drugs, plants, roots and herbs like ‘‘gegemu’’ that may not be under the purview of the NDLEA prohibition schedule. The visit also strengthened the relationship between the Guidance & Counseling Unit of the Students’ Affairs Division in the area of testing the level of drug addiction in students so as to determine if the addict requires just counseling, ‘‘half- way home’’ or outright rehabilitation.

The Ag. Dean of Students and his team also visited the office of the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corp, Akure Command. On arrival,  the team was welcomed by FRSC officials led by the Sector Commander, Corp Commander Vincent M.T. Jack. Other officers of the FRSC team included the Sector Head of Operation, Assistance Corp Commander (training), Deputy Corp Commander( Operation) and others. 

Corp Commander V.M.T. Jack, who took over the state command in May, expressed his delight to having the team and stated that he had looked forward to having a meeting with the Vice Chancellor. He commended the University on the good relationship that has existed between the corps and the University, and he emphasized on the need for more collaboration in the area of Aggressive Public Safety Enlightenment. This, he said, is an effective way of ensuring a safer highway and sanctity of human lives. The Sector Commander also advocated for an inclusion of Road Safety Education in the curriculum for tertiary institutions as well as continuous training and sensitization of drivers within and outside the University.

Responding, the Dean, Students’ Affairs appreciated the FRSC and thanked them for the support so far and promise to offer maximum cooperation in all areas.   Â
