CEGIST collaborates with an American-based Nigerian Don on the Development of Manpower for Mathematics.

Dr. Agwu, a Professor of Mathematics has lamented the scarcity of Mathematicians of African origin in the field and is therefore working in partnership with the Centre for Gender Issues in Science and Technology (CEGIST) to stimulate improved interest of Africans in the field of Mathematics which is generally acknowledged as the backbone of Science courses.

The Project seeks to encourage girls at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels to consider Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) careers.

Series of specialized workshops were held in the month of August, 2014 for teachers and lecturers of Mathematics and related disciplines as part of implementation of the Program. The Program was formally launched during this period on Tuesday 26th August, 2014.

CEGIST’s Carnegie Program Presented in New York:

On November 12, 2014, Dr. Nkechi Agwu presented some of the outcomes of the CEGIST-FUTA workshops held while she was with us in August. The invitation came from the Africana Studies Faculty Interest Group through the Center for Teaching and Learning (CETLS). The program took place in CETLS from 1:00-2:00 pm
