The Federal University of Technology, Akure was created by act of parliament on September, 28 1981 and the first set of students numbering 147 were matriculated in September, 1982 who thereafter graduated in the first convocation ceremonies of the University in 1987.

Between 1982 till date, much achievement had been recorded. Suffice to note that with all the strides that the university had recorded, much of it had gone to the dustbin either as a result of poor record keeping or improper management of materials.

It is not unlikely that these important records are in existence, if at all any exist, it largely would be in the repositories of the players of these epoch making events and/or in the nearly faded memories of the few surviving titans that cared to file away documented events that has contributed to what has made the University today.

There is therefore no gainsaying that our University must play a very crucial role at establishing and maintaining a repository of records and monuments that would be a referral if and when issues that border on the University is under reference. The motto of the Unit is “PRESERVING THE PAST TO PROTECT THE FUTURE”

It is on this note that the University set up the Archival and Records Management Unit.
